Comprehensive initiatives addressing the needs of vulnerable communities in Kakuma.
Each program is designed with community input and delivered by dedicated local teams committed to lasting impact.

Every day, HIRE's outreach team goes out to find street-connected children. We meet them where they are. We offer food first no conditions attached. Then we build trust. Then we offer steady emotional support to help them heal. Our team works to stabilize children emotionally before anything else, because a child who feels unsafe cannot learn. From this foundation, we are building toward safe learning spaces, school reintegration, and life-skills mentorship, restoring not just routine, but hope.

Every child learns better when no child learns alone.
HIRE has put in place an inclusive education program that does not discriminate bringing all children, with and without disabilities, together to learn, play, and grow side by side.
Today, HIRE supports 70+ children, including 5 children with disabilities fully integrated into mixed-ability classrooms.
Inclusion shouldn't be rare. With your support, it won't be.

Every child in our care deserves to be safe, not by chance, but by design.
Child protection isn't a separate program at HIRE, it's the framework that governs every program we run. It shapes how our staff and volunteers interact with children, how concerns are reported, and how we respond when something goes wrong.
Every staff member and volunteer undergoes background checks where feasible, signs our Code of Conduct and Safeguarding Policy, and completes mandatory safeguarding training. Children are never left unsupervised. Clear rules govern every interaction — no staff member is ever alone with a child in private, and any concern must be reported immediately, without exception.
When a concern is raised, our response is swift and survivor-centered: we secure the child's safety first, provide medical, psychosocial, or legal support as needed, and carry out every investigation with dignity, confidentiality, and care.
This system protects every child across all our programs more than 70 children today, with more to come.
Because a child is only truly safe when protection is built into everything around them.

No child should be hidden away because of a disability.
In Kakuma, children with disabilities are often kept out of sight, isolated by stigma, fear, or simply the belief that there's nowhere for them to belong. HIRE goes looking for them.
Through door-to-door outreach, our team identifies children with disabilities who might otherwise be missed. We provide psychosocial support to reduce stigma and fear, work toward assistive devices like wheelchairs, and train caregivers on children's rights and proper care so a child isn't just found, but truly included.
Today, HIRE supports 5 children with disabilities this way, with plans to reach 15 as resources grow.
Because isolation is a danger in itself and inclusion starts with being seen.

A child cannot heal from what no one helps them carry.
Behind every child HIRE supports is a story of displacement, loss, or trauma. Through play, storytelling, music, and counseling, we help children heal, rebuild confidence, and feel safe again.
Today, this care reaches every child across HIRE's programs 70+ children in total.
Because healing isn't separate from progress. It's what makes progress possible.
